The Equipment and Tool Institute is looking for 30-minute presentations, 60-minute presentations and moderators for roundtable discussions and workshops that fit into tracks to benefit the ETI Membership. Carlyle Group Buying DuPont’s Performance Coatings Business for $4.9 Billion

The Carlyle Group says it is buying DuPont’s performance coatings business for $4.9 billion in cash, giving it another investment in the automotive and industrial segments. The performance coatings business of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. caters to the automotive and industrial coatings sectors. The business is expected to have 2012 sales of more than $4 billion. It has more than 11,000 workers.

The Carlyle Group Closes Service King Acquisition

Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group has closed on its acquisition of Service King Collision Repair Centers.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  The Carlyle Group now holds majority ownership in Service King. Service King said its founder, Eddie Lennox, has retained a significant ownership stake in the company.  Service King said the acquisition resulted in minor leadership changes. Cathy Bonner, former CEO of the company, is now chairman of its board of directors. Chris Abraham has been appointed as Service King’s new CEO, and Jeff McFadden has been appointed president of the company.

U.S. Completes 54.5 mpg Fuel-Economy Mandate For Light Vehicles

President Barack Obama released a final version of a rule forcing automakers to more than double average fuel economy by 2025 that includes changes benefiting Honda Motor Co. and other makers of alternative-fuel vehicles.  "By the middle of the next decade, our cars will get nearly 55 miles per gallon, almost double what they get today," Obama said today in an e-mailed statement. "It'll strengthen our nation's energy security, it's good for middle class families and it will help create an economy built to last."
