ETI Membership Overview

ETI is one of the most respected trade associations in the automotive aftermarket, giving fair and equitable representation to all segments of the equipment and tool industry. The Institute is an association of automotive tool and equipment manufacturers and technical information providers and training organizations.

Today, ETI meets the needs of a diverse industry. Its members’ products range from high tech diagnostic tools to traditional hand tools. ETI membership benefits, events, and services are tailored to meet the needs of all tool and equipment makers – whether manufacturers of highly technical diagnostic equipment or hand-tools, a large manufacturer or a small to mid-sized business.

Benefits of ETI Membership

  • ETI is one of the few organizations that is respected by vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket alike. Our members supply products to both markets. ETI offers its members access to important OEM and aftermarket contacts through meetings and seminars.
  • Sometimes it is difficult for a tool or equipment company to challenge a government regulation or a vehicle manufacturer's policy. Through ETI your company relationships can remain intact while the Institute takes up your cause as an industry initiative.
  • ETI's TEK-NET Library can provide you with the information required to build enhanced scan tools for many vehicle manufacturers.
  • ETI works with Government and private organizations to ensure that tool and equipment concerns are accounted for when standards and regulations are developed.
  • ETI maintains several email lists. These lists keep you informed of industry activities, meetings, issues and important documents.

Services

TEK-NET Library. ETI’s TEK-NET Library is an invaluable, up-to-date repository of past, current and advanced vehicle specification  information. It contains information that we request from all OEMs. The documentation provides specifications and data to perform vehicle control module diagnostics for hand-held scan tools.

Market Research. ETI conducts Market Research projects to assist our members in bringing new and improved equipment and tools to the marketplace.  ETI surveys approximately 25,000 automotive repair facilities in an effort to find out more about their familiarity with and use of tools, equipment, services and technology.  ETI members use this research to provide aftermarket shops with tools, equipment, and services.  Previous studies include:J2534 Reprogramming, J2534 Update, TPMS, Telematics, Collision Repair, A/C Service, Hybrid and Battery Service, and Shop Information Access.

Newsletter. The ETI Industry Update offers current news with our industry, delivers updates on ETI Events, and information on trends and general business topics.

Meetings/Events

Summer Tech Week is held each June. ETI engineers and product managers meet with key individuals from GM, Ford, Chrysler,  VW/Audi and other car makers to discuss new systems and the tools and equipment that will be needed to service them.

Winter Tech Week is held each December. It is similar to Summer Tech Week except that we alternate locations yearly between Japan and the United States.  We meet with vehicle manufacturers during the week and gain quite a bit of insight into all the new technologies
and specifications that will be introduced into the next year's models.

ToolTech is held each Spring.  There is no other venue or event like it. Nowhere else can you find the networking, promotional opportunities and access to important purchasing decision makers for OEMs, national accounts and large purchasing groups targeted specifically to the vehicle-related equipment and tool industry.
